Embossing creates a three-dimensional image or design in paper or other ductile materials. The embossing process is typically created through a combination of heat and pressure on the object to squeeze the fibres of the material. This pressure and a combination of heat actually raise the level of the image higher than the object's surface to create an elegant imprint / stamp.
Debossing is the opposite of embossing where the image is lowered into the surface of the material as opposed to becoming raised.
The embossing/debossing process can be applied to paper, textiles, compendiums, leather goods, etc to get a better finished product which provides a smart, executive type tone on tone appearance. It can also be used with foil stamping or inks to add colour to the finished product / logo.
